Winter in the Zillertal

Sporty on the go in winter. Snow and ice provide special sports experiences. Here in the Zillertal, where winter is still winter, skiing is a must. Away from the slopes, ski tours and snowshoe hikes, fun toboggan runs, cross-country skiing and ice skating are popular. Piste fans, ambitious hobby sports enthusiasts and families will all enjoy the huge range of offers and the sheer endless possibilities. From the Gasthof Jägerklause you can reach the surrounding ski areas and other leisure facilities in no time at all with free ski buses or your own car. In this sense, piste free, for an active winter holiday in the Zillertal.

Skiing

Go on a ski safari! The Zillertal is famous for its four large ski regions with a total of 180 lifts, 535 km of perfectly groomed slopes and the Hintertuxer Glacier, the only all-year ski region in Austria. The ski area SKI-Optimal Hochzillertal is only 3 km away from the Gasthof Jägerklause and is open from December to April. Free ski buses run several times a day between Gattererberg and the Hochzillertal valley station. At the top of the mountain station, 39 lifts, 90 kilometres of pistes of all levels of difficulty, a snow park with halfpipe, countless places to stop for refreshments, two ski schools and every Friday night skiing with an illuminated valley run await you. Freeriders will find their own personal Mecca in the nearby Hochfügen ski area, which can be explored on request with trained guides.

Ski tours and snowshoe hikes

Every step is an adventure. Away from the piste you get closer to the mountain peaks on a ski tour. In addition to enough stamina, the right technique, the right equipment and the ideal route are important. Rely on experienced mountain or ski guides and climb the Zillertal mountains in your own rhythm on guided tours. Undiscovered mountains and side valleys can also be explored on snowshoe hikes. The local ski and alpine schools are at your disposal for advice and assistance. The necessary equipment can be rented in sports shops and in ski rental shops. Look forward to a sporty break in the powder snow.

Toboggan run

We recommend a fun toboggan run as a sporting balance and welcome change. Not far from Gasthof Jägerklause you will find several toboggan runs which can be reached on foot or partly by taxi shuttle. The Almluft toboggan run is located directly on the Gattererberg and can be reached quickly and easily by our guests. With a distance of 1.5 km, the run is easily accessible on foot. Upstairs at the Almluft snack station, delicious local delicacies as well as refreshments await you. The toboggan run is also open in the evening, including floodlighting. Toboggan hire can be rented at the Gasthof Almluft, as is the case with other toboggan runs in the Zillertal. So nothing stands in the way of a fun evening in a mountain hut and a safe descent.

Ice skating

Let's get on the ice! It's not only children who make their big entrance when ice skating in the Zillertal. Getting faster and faster round after round and enjoying daring turns is fun for the whole family. That's guaranteed! In the Zillertal there are nine ice rinks with natural or artificial ice. You can reach the Stumm natural ice rink from the Jägerklause in just a few minutes by car. Ice skating shoes for adults and children can be rented on site at the ice skating rinks for a fee. Many places are illuminated in the evening and offer curling as well as ice skating. This is a cool way to end a successful day.
